Course Registration
Procedures for Scheduling Courses

At the beginning of second semester, students will be given a list of course offerings for the next school year.  Students and their parents will be invited to class meetings in the evening.  At these meetings, students and parents will be given information about requesting courses for the next school year.  Students will meet individually with school personnel (counselors, teachers, and administrators) to request the courses for the next school year. These course requests must be approved by a parent with a signature.

Schedule changes can be made when students pick schedules up in the summer and during the first week of school.

Schedule changes for second semester can be requested at the end of first semester.

* All schedule requests and changes must be approved by a parent/guardian.

Grade Point Average (GPA)

Cumulative GPA – This is your overall grade point average of all courses taken during high school. You can find your cumulative GPA on your transcript.

Core GPA – This is the grade point average of courses taken that are required by TOPS (also known as the Regents Core curriculum). Each school year, your counselor will give you an updated report that contains your Core GPA. You can also calculate your own Core GPA using the Core GPA Calculator.

Honors/AP Course Overview

Honors courses require more independent student learning than our regular courses. The teachers move through the material at a faster pace, which allows for more in-depth coverage of topics. Honors classes use a 10-point grading scale, but are not weighted.

AP courses are similar to honors courses in depth and pace.  Students who take AP courses are expected to take an Advanced Placement exam at the end of the school year to earn college credit for the coursework.

Credit Recovery Options

Credit Recovery
During the spring semester credit recovery (called Twilight School) will be offered after school for first semester courses.  Summer school is offered the first four weeks of summer to recover credits and for GEE remediation.  Seniors who need credits to graduate will have the opportunity to recover courses online during the school day through the EdOptions program.
